Seven Oceans Expeditions

About

A dive-first expedition company built for the places organized diving never reached.

The Company

Who We Are

Seven Oceans Expeditions is a dive-first expedition company providing rare access to the world’s most extraordinary frontier destinations. We run ultra-small polar and cold-water expeditions for experienced divers and adventure travelers who want to go where access is limited and discovery still matters.

Professional standards are not layered onto the experience. They shape it. Safety, discipline, and preparation define every expedition.

During a visit to Greenland in 2025 the question was put to everyone: is there a way for a visitor to go diving here? The answer never changed. No diving existed, except for a select group of commercial divers and a handful of Iceland-based cruise ships sailing these waters, offering it as an infrequent secondary activity.

The Turning Point

In Greenland the absence of diving was impossible to ignore. Deep blue water, rich marine life, and icebergs floating like towering cities.

On the final morning of the visit, the same question was put one more time, this time to a former navy diver, commercial diver, and hotel owner. Is there a way for a visitor to go diving here? It is not possible, he said.

That answer started a conversation. The conversation became an idea.

If organized polar diving didn’t exist, it had to be built.

Creating What Did Not Exist

From that conversation, Seven Oceans Expeditions was born, a polar diving expedition company built to take divers to Greenland, where few, if any, have dived. Ultra-small groups aboard an Arctic vessel, with every expedition built around the diving rather than around the ship.

Because so little of that coastline has ever been dived, every expedition is exploratory by definition. There is no fixed list of known sites to dive. We read charts and ice, talk to captains, get in the water, and find out what is down there.

Even the marine life looks at us curiously. Most of it has likely never seen a human underwater before.

Where Next

Greenland exposed something larger. Access to polar diving is not easy, and in most cases not possible.

Seven Oceans Expeditions exists to change that: to create access where there was none.

Beyond the west coast of Greenland, we are expanding our polar diving expeditions to the east coast of Greenland, Svalbard, South Georgia, and Antarctica. The standard does not change: dive where few, if any, have dived.

From the Founder

A Note from Tom

Tom Popper, President and Founder of Seven Oceans Expeditions, on deck

I have spent much of my life traveling, and for the past decade doing much of it underwater. The places that stay with me are the ones almost no one gets to see. Greenland is one of those places. Thousands of miles of coastline, icebergs drifting past like they own the horizon, and no way to see what lies beneath the surface. I couldn’t let that sit.

Seven Oceans Expeditions is my answer to it. We keep the dive teams small and the diving first. Every expedition is designed around the descent, not around a schedule or a list of sights. I care about doing this right, which means real preparation, real standards, and a crew you can trust when the water is cold and the nearest help is a long way off. None of that is optional to me.

If you have ever looked at a map and wondered what’s down there, you already understand why I do this. Come dive water few people have entered. Bring your experience, your curiosity, and your willingness to go a little further than most. I’ll handle the rest. See you on the boat.
